About two weeks ago I played a very special concert. Special for many reasons… Umshlagplatz in Warsaw for historical reasons casts a big shadow over Warsaw reflecting the cruel history of WWII and the Holocaust.
But throughout this bright sun, intense yet beautiful music and positive energy, we tried to pay respect for all who passed…
I dedicated this recital to Dov Eshel, a survivor and a close friend of my family, whom my grandfather Zbigniew Holubowicz rescued during that terrible time. They became like brothers till the end, Dov came to Poland, my grandparents visited him in Israel twice. They skyped almost every day before my grandpa passed (about 15 years ago). Dov Eshel is turning 100 this year and his wit is still sharp!
Besides Beethoven I played some of my improvisations on tunes that he sang to me a few months ago over the phone which were important for him during that diffucult time…
Such a powerful and inspiring history of frienship and a real lesson of what we call humanity…

Magical time last Sunday at @muzeum_stawisko ✨🎶
Iwaszkiewicz created a mecca for Polish literature, music and culture after WW2 in his manor. Not to mention that together with his wife Anna they gave shelter and saved over 30 jewish people during the war risking their own lives… ❗️
Rubinstein played here, Szymanowski was a cousin of Iwaszkiewicz so he chilled here quite often… So many important political figures, scientists, artists stayed here 😮‍💨
It was a very special experience to play in Stawisko and finish my recital with Szymanowski’s Mazurka 🇵🇱
